An extraordinary and rarely seen antique console with dark stained and carved oak frame and very interesting sinuous form in a very interesting Grotto Style. The Mirror is large and impressive having shell and Foliate carving as well as an Openwork carved crest. The original mirror glass has mercury oxidation in keeping with the age and presents very well.
The mirror measures 56.25” wide by 71” high by 3” deep. Very good Antique condition with expected and acceptable signs of age including minor edge nicks and a few small losses (leaf tip).
The wall-mounted Console features two fantastic exaggerated Sinuous legs ending in Stylized Hoof-Foot and re-states the carving motifs of the mirror. The console with marble measures 58.75” wide by 21.25” deep by 37.5”. The console holds a fine piece of black and white Belgian Marble in very good condition with a time softened chip to the front edge, otherwise very fine.
The Marble measures 60” wide by 23” deep by .75” thick.
Condition: As mentioned, the overall condition is very good with only minor and acceptable age related nicks and time-softened losses. There is an old repaired and stable leg break (see photo) however the entire ensemble presents exceptionally well.
