Swedish, 19th Century
Height 132cm, width 75cm, depth 5cm
Crafted in 19th century Sweden, the design of this elegant pair of mirrors is after the work of the Precht family. Burchard (d.1738), Gustav (d. 1763) and Christian (d. 1779) Precht were synonymous with 18th century mirror production in Sweden and crafted exceptional pieces for the Swedish court.
Mounted on an ebonised wood backing, the front of the mirrors is adorned with gilt metal frames and engraved glass detailing. The egg and dart motif is used for the gilt metal frames. The glass is engraved with floral and scrolling patterns, in between which are gilt metal mounts of a similar design. Centering each mirror is a large glass plane. Surmounting the mirror is a shaped, gilt metal, and engraved glass panel with adornments like the ones below. Topping these are gilt metal vases filled with rich bouquets.
Celebrating the work of 18th century Swedish mirror makers, this pair of mirrors would look superb, for example in between windows, visually enlarging the space.
