Amsterdam
Circa 1625 – 1650
A blue and white Dutch tile with a decoration of a Dutch soldier from the period of the 80 Years War. This soldier could be a member of the civil guard, and is probably wearing a ceremonial costume. He is wearing a sash and probably a banner on his back. Please also look at the fantastic detail in his pike.
The decoration of this tile is very detailed and we can beautifully see the details in his clothing, face, sword, and pike.
The scene is painted with French lilies (fleur de lis) as corner decoration.
The tile is in very good condition, with the normal superficial wear and small chips according to age.
