A Swedish Baroque box with original ironwork, key and big strong perfectly working lock dated (forged in the iron) 1752. This special shaped pine wood box, bought in the region of “Dalsland” in Sweden, not to far away from Norway, is probably build like that because this strongly build box was probably used on a horse sleigh or on a horse carriage. It was most certainly keeping important and precious documents or objects and the chauffeur was keeping the nicely worked key well hidden under his coat.
There is marked sign of three different owners.
The original first owner is a bit blur but readable in the inside of the lock
“Fransen MCCLII”, which means 1752 in roman numbers.
The second owner was M.M.J.J in 1820 and than the third N.BÖ was the last that has signed or marked its property in the wood.
Even though this box has been in Sweden probably a long time, the surname “Fransen” and the last owner indicate that this little trunk was probably made in another country in Scandinavia, Norway.
