The French Savonnerie factory was the most prestigious European manufacturer of knotted pile carpets. The production was born from a carpet factory created in a disused soap factory on the Quai de Chaillot in Paris in 1615 by Pierre DuPont who was returning from Constantinople.
The name of the factory, by commercial custom, is applied to knotted carpets from other European factories, the most famous being undoubtedly the Spanish factory, which also manufactured carpets of enormous dimensions for the Royal House.
The decorations were very inspired by French production, the symmetrical knotting technique was the same. The decoration follows the style that prevails in the furniture of different historical periods.
