These so called ‘Boucquets’ were hand-carved in the late 17th century by French craftsmen. As the Baroque style found its French translation with Louis XIV architects and designers didn’t stop at the castle gates. They also aspired to control nature itself by bringing order and balance in the surrounding gardens and parks. Ornaments and statues were inspired by Antiquity and we can see this clearly in the baluster shaped vases. The life circle of nature is symbolized with one bouquet blossoming and the other withering.
