A Swedish mid-18th century late Baroque corner cabinet. This Swedish Baroque cabinet, circa 1730-1740, features a pediment cornice, carved cupboard doors and scalloped base. There is a single top cupboard board with a single bottom cupboard door and interior shelves. This Swedish corner cabinet has a scraped wood finish with some traces of blue and white showing throughout. The accent trim color is primarily blue with cream. 18th century, Pair of Italian Inlay Wood Corner Cabinets
Measurements: cm H maximum 183 cm x D 56; top H 92 cm
This refined pair of corner cabinets was made in Piedmont around the middle of the 18th century.
The wooden structure is veneered in walnut and embellished with boxwood inlays and rosewood paneling. The clear inlays with geometric designs, curls, volutes and phytomorphic elements characteristic of the time create an elegant decoration in full contrast with the color of walnut wood. The slabbing plays on the different trend of the wood grain to create movement and chromatic games.
Each corner unit consists of two parts. The lower semi-circular one has a door that opens to the right, inside which there are shelves. The interiors are completely lacquered to simulate a lighter wooden essence to give brightness to the rooms. The feet are shaped and the mixture of the lower profile helps to create movement and lightness to the furniture. The doors and the top are entirely inlaid. The edge of the top, covered with bois de rose and rounded, embellishes the decoration.
The upper part of the corner is composed of two vertical inlaid elements, characterized by a mixed and wavy profile that reduce upwards until they converge at the top ended by a small plane. Two other semi-circular shelves of different sizes spaced the height.
This type of structure is quite unusual in the Pimonto area, giving rarity to these two corners.
The two corners are very decorative and refined, suitable to be placed in pairs or individually in environments such as living rooms, studios, dining rooms, entrances. They can be combined with antique furniture but also with contemporary furniture, being very functional if you have corners to furnish with furniture that can contain objects and expose others.

A rare antique Flemish/Dutch polychrome corner cabinet, painted with the nativity scene of Jesus, Holland circa 1760.
The two door bow-fronted cabinet having an original painting of the Adoration of the Christ Child”, it depicts Mary & Joseph presenting Jesus to the Magi or Three Wise Men/Kings. Each door with a brass escutcheon/lock plate and pierced brass ‘butterfly’ hinges, the doors enclose three original shelves.
The cabinet is in good condition & of solid construction, the polychrome decoration is predominantly intact & in good condition.

Provenance; From the estate of celebrated British theatre set & costume designer Oliver Messel (1904-1978). He famously designed the Tony Award winning sets for Truman Capote’s 1954 Broadway musical “House of Flowers”. He was related to Queen Elizabeth II sister, Princess Margaret and was well known for throwing flamboyant parties attended by theatre stars, designers and aristocrats, the cabinet had been in his residence at 17 & 19 Pelham Place, South Kensington, London.

ANTIQUE SWEDISH CORNER CABINET

A decorative and characterful cabinet with a panelled door and sides and a moulded cornice.

Layers of original and later paint, which has worn in places paint a deep blue/grey with red accents.

Could be wall mounted, it could sit on top of a table or shelf, it also works really well standing on the floor as a lamp or side table.

Made from hardwood, and probably either oak or birch with the original wrought iron hinges and spring loaded lock (lacking key).

Originating from Sweden, the cabinet dates to the late 17th or early 18th century circa 1680-1700 period during the reign of Charles XI or Charles XII.

It is in very good condition for its age, it appears to be all present and correct, there is obviously wear as you would expect but no serious issues.

Measuring 78cm high x 54cm wide x 40cm deep (from the front to the back point). Each of the two back panels is 39cm wide.
