Vintage Design
Designer Pierre Paulin distinguished himself with his original shape, bright colors and a production technique that was revolutionary for the time. The idea for Mushroom ® came to Pierre Paulin’s mind when he observed women shaped and clad in bathing suits. He wanted the same thing for seating. He found inspiration in the beautiful curves, as well as in the seamless, one-piece stretch fabric.
In 1958, Paulin began researching stretch fabric covers and collaborated with Artifort’s development department. The seamless, one-piece stretch method of cover construction revolutionizes the way seating is designed. Paulin puts all upholsterers off with a mouth full of nails….
This new construction method is the beginning of a new aesthetic. In fact, it changed the way the world viewed design in terms of form, materials and textiles. The Mushroom ® design is proof of this.
