Pair of early giltwood book stands carved as doves mounted upon orbs, from the late 17th or early 18th century. Nice large scale. Books are laid open across the backs of the doves’ wings, supported by the giltwood scrolled element atop the doves’ tails (as shown in the images). The pair most likely were made to accommodate new and old testament readings in a church. Sold together and priced as a pair for $7,800.
Note: Original/early finish on antique and vintage metal will include some, or all, of the following: patina, scaling, light rust, discoloration, and corrosion. Regional differences in humidity and climate during shipping may cause antique and vintage wood to shrink and/or split along its grain, veneer to loosen and/or peel, and painted finishes and gilt to crack and flake.
