Magnificent transition piece displaying classical ornamentation within a traditional Baroque form
Conceived to be a statement piece with contrast between the ebonising, the patinated rosewood, the bone inlay and the large brasses
The bone inlay is delicately drawn with floral sprays and lovebirds, suggesting this could be a commemorative piece
The lion handles are indicative of the status of this piece and possibly allude to strength and courage
The rosewood has beautiful figuring and injects warmth and into the cassetone as does the top
The geometric inlay of the desk is mirrored and held by the geometric inlay on the sides
Hinged top decorated with bone inlay with trailing stems and tulip heads
The interior fitted with a central drawer and four drawers either side all inlaid with geometric stringing and the writing surface also the brass lock a late-18thc early -19thc replacement
False drawer enclosing the bureau above three pine lined drawers all decorated with central birds in flight and trailing stems
The sides with diamond stringing
Two keys
