1970’s Richard Rothbard Signed Carved Cedar Wood Puzzle Jewelry Box

A very fine example of Richard Rothbard’s unique carved-wood creations, this piece features an intricate butterfly cutout inside of a mini “drawer” with a small compartment inside. The block of wood used for this work has incredible character, from the deep grooves separating the different pillars of the wood, to the two tones of color showing on top and the knots on the side. Along with the artist’s signature, this piece bears the early “Sugar Loaf, NY” tag indicating it was produced in his first studio circa 1970’s.
